Orange County Supervisor Shawn Nelson has reportedly requested a concealed weapon permit from OC Sheriff Sandra Hutchens.  R. Scott Moxley spoke with Nelson and posted the story at OC Weekly.

According to the Fullerton resident, he's already taken all the necessary gun training courses and, once Sheriff Sandra Hutchens formally issues him a permit, will carry a semi-automatic Colt Commander .45 caliber handgun.

Any future lunatic should be warned.

Seriously, I hope Supervisor Nelson gets the CCW permit and that he will continue to be an advocate for the 2nd Amendment.

Out of Control Gun Control, Part 3

 According to CBSNews.com, the Mexican Attorney General says "full force of law" to be used in ATF gunwalking scandal investigation.

CBSNews.com:

Over the weekend, the Mexican attorney general stated: "The controlled trafficking of weapons is not authorized under the Mexican national legislation. An operation that would contemplate this would not have been acceptable to the Mexican government, and it will never be under any circumstance." The Mexican Attorney General also stated that it's conducting its own investigation to identify "the crimes that could have been carried out on Mexican territory."

You know our country is in bad shape when we need the Attorney General of MEXICO to help us get to the bottom of our own governments' corruption.

I would imagine if there were tons of contraband crossing into the U.S. everyday, our own U.S. Attorney General, Eric Holder, would be equally outraged...but he isn't.

Out of Control Gun Control, Part 2

As I indicated HERE, the White House is looking more culpable by the day as being the source of the directives that caused ATF field agents to NOT get involved in an international gun-running operation by Mexican drug cartels. 

As CBS News and other media look into this further, I think we will see that people close to the President knew about the ATF operations and gave direct orders for the ATF to NOT intervene.  More than likely, the Justice Department and White House will become overtly defensive and even more secretive.  This will raise additional awareness from Congress.  Then, under pressure from the Republican-lead Congress, White House staffers and advisers will begin to waffle on their lack of knowledge of the operation. 

The scandal will likely be subdued with the resignation of a few top officials who decide to "move on" to lecture or teach.  (Watch out Harvard; here come the White House washouts!)

Time will tell if the effort by the United States Government to flood the Mexican drug cartels with U.S.-sold guns will have any affect on the 2nd Amendment. 

Whatever happens will likely not include the apprehension and bringing to justice of those on both sides of the border who were complicit in the gun running. 

It makes you wonder why our own government would want ATF to stand-down.  Was the reason, as I suggested, to flood the cartels with guns in hopes of making it look as though the United States has weak gun control laws that need to be beefed up?  Or could it be that there is something even more sinister at work, such as bribery at the highest levels of our government?  I can only speculate...

Out of Control Gun Control

Earlier this year a story broke that has had the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Fire Arms in damage control mode. 

According to various media including CBS, the ATF allowed guns to be purchased in the U.S. by know drug cartel members and transported into Mexico. 

ATF field agents notified superiors of what was happening and were told to stand down.

This “stand-down” policy contributed heavily to the problem of U.S. guns in the hands of the drug cartels, the main reason cited by the Whitehouse for seeking to revise gun control laws.

In essence you have a White House initiative or agenda to disarm a nation and when more data is needed to support an otherwise baseless claim, you order law enforcement to stand-down from doing their job so that a new problem can blossom. 

Ok, maybe it isn’t quite so cut and dry.  Maybe President Obama didn’t tell Napolitano to tell her agents to stand-down.  But even absent a smoking gun (yes, a lame pun), it certainly calls into question the operational policies of our federal law enforcement agencies. 

The federal law enforcement and investigative agents I have known over the years have all been committed to protecting the U.S.  They have all been well trained and educated.  The last thing field agents need is for management to handcuff (yes, another lame pun) their enforcement duties.  If management feels a law is unenforceable, seek to have the law amended or abolished.

As liberal gun control advocates seek to disarm lawful U.S. citizens by creating new laws that are even more restrictive, we must recognize that current laws are under enforced at all levels. 

Until current gun control laws are fully and fairly enforced by field agents with the support of their respective supervisors and prosecutors, the legislature and White House should steer clear of proposing new restrictions that will soon fail from lack of enforcement.

OC Register Sides With Gun Owners

"Self-defense is a basic right, recognized by many legal systems from ancient times to the present day," wrote Justice Samuel Alito, who was joined in the majority by Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Anthony Kennedy, Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas. (from the OCR)

The big question on my mind is this:  Is the right to keep and bear arms in the name of self-defense only a right of someone occupying a residence?  What about the "houseless" (a term my brother likes to use and rightfully so)?  What about business owners and workers?  Do you have to have a structure in which you you live, pay rent, or own in order to defend your self with a firearm?  I think not.

Based on the Court's ruling, I think the right to self-defense is not limited to the domicile but rather anywhere a person is.  The only exceptions that I could foresee might include public schools and buildings such as City Hall, where there is a police presence and command of security to defend the defenseless. 

The real question...when will California recognize the U.S. Constitution?

Orange County, CA had to deal with an appointed Sheriff for almost two y ears. Her experience stems from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department – one of the most CCW-restrictive agencies in the nation. Barely in office Sandra Hutchens went on a reckless mission to revoke, restrict and deny renewal on hundreds of legitimately issued concealed carry permits.

Katie Couric and the Theory That Christian + Patriot = Evil Racist Militia

Katie breaks out the broad brush for this one.  Notice how hard she tries to bait the guest into making a racists or extremist comment.  And if you really want to hear something shocking, roll the video forward to about 28:15 and listen to this self-proclaimed expert as he connects being a patriotic Christian to being racist extremists.  Who knew the Christian motto "What would Jesus do?" would be answered with "Kill the Jews and the blacks" as the author would like you to believe. I suppose it is fair to infer that being a Jewish patriot or Muslim patriot is just fine. Being a civil libertarian has never been so hard for Christians who believe in all of the Constitution's amendments.

The "expert" would also like you to think that militias are not supposed to be threatening or menacing by their mere presence. However, I believe as many judges do, that the intent of the "militia" being mentioned in the Constitution was the final stop-gap to prevent tyrannical rule should all other checks and balances fail. California, so far as I know, has no militia. The last one we had was turned into the Army Nation Guard which get's deployed regularly to foreign countries. I don’t think that was the intended use of militias when Mason, Jefferson, and the others penned the Constitution. But what do I know, I’m just a voter.

Bill Hunt Talks About Concealed Weapon Permits (CCW)

As part of an ongoing report, March 1, 2010, FFFF’s Travis Kiger, Fullerton businessman Larry Lazar and myself sat down with Bill Hunt, 2010 candidate for Orange County Sheriff. The roundtable discussion was an opportunity to ask some important questions that we think are on the minds of voters. No topic was off-limits.

We had some questions about CCW’s for the man whose slogan has been “The Sheriff should be in the business of protecting people’s rights, not restricting them.”

We asked Bill Hunt how his stance was different from his opponent’s. Hunt told us that he is a constitutionalist and believes that the current system lends itself to corruption. Hunt believes that the statistics from 39 “Shall Issue” states, is proof that CCW’s lower crime rates. Further, he believes that an armed citizenry will help keep the peace at a time when the Sheriff’s Department is looking to lay off sworn deputies.

We also asked Hunt to lay out the process that an applicant can expect if he is elected Sheriff. Hunt said, “If we have someone come in and they are a range owner and maybe they have own of these reciprocal CCW’s that’s good in thirteen states, and they’re in good standing in those states, then I think we need to shorten up that process. We need to verify that the permit is legitimate and have had backgrounds on them, and then do an updated background to make sure there have been no problems in the interim. Then we check their training. If they’re proficient, we have our range master check them out. If they’re proficient, sign them off. If it’s a new person with no current CCW then we need to do the full background check, send them through the full NRA familiarization course, and get them through the process!”

Hunt also wants to waive or at least reduce fees for low-income applicants. The logic is simple: low-income areas have higher crime rates thus more victims. Lowering fees would put the odds back in the hands of citizens rather than the criminals.

A cookie-cutter approach is the wrong way to handle it. There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to CCW’s, crime victims, and high propensity targets.

The appointed Orange County Sheriff Sandra Hutchens claims that she “opposes early releases,” see her campaign site. But, her actions contradict that statement as she releases 401 criminals since Jan 25.

No Right Of Protection

I read this a few years back and thought it worthy of bringing up again.  Many believe this ruling lends support to 2nd Ammendment advocates because it begs the question, "If our government won't protect us, who will?"
