Fullerton PD Shares Recent Police Activities

In what I think is a concerted effort by the Fullerton Police Department to share information, here are three recent FPD stories you may not have heard.  The first two are from FPD Press Releases while the third is an update from Acting Chief Dan Hughes.

On a side note, I have been criticized for my support of the Fullerton Police Department's efforts to rid the City of graffiti.  It seems some believe that tagging and vandalism are minor crimes not worthy of policing.  What many are forgetting is that this effort to to gain the upper hand on taggers is was initiated by the residents of West Fullerton.  They insisted that the FPD take these costly crimes seriously which they have.  I appreciate city leaders who listen to and respond to the residents.  Acting Chief Dan Hughes is doing everything he can to put uniforms on Fullerton's streets including placing himself on patrol in an effort to give residents the level of service they are demanding.  Until someone can prove otherwise, I believe the effort is genuine and commendable, especially considering the current state of the Police Department left in the wake of the invisible Chief Sellers and a culture of corruption reminiscent of LAPD's Rampart scandal courtesy of retired FPD chief turned council member, Pat McKinley.

Subject: Police find marijuana plants in home where put bull attacked 2-year-old
Contact: Sgt. Andrew Goodrich, Fullerton Police Department    (714) 738-6838

Police and paramedics responded to a residence in the 2500 block of Larkwood last night (Dec 26) regarding a pit bull who had bitten a 2-year-old child at a home.

Fullerton Police Sgt. Andrew Goodrich said that the mother ran to a nearby neighbor with her 2 year old son and asked the neighbor to call the paramedics. Fullerton Fire responded, treated the toddler, and transported him to an area trauma center. While at the hospital, the victim was treated for a 7” laceration on his head.

The mother was house sitting for a friend, and does not live at the residence. She stepped outside the room for a moment, and then heard growling and a scream from her child. When she ran back into the room, she saw the dog standing over her child, and the child bleeding from the head.

Animal Control responded and took custody of the dog, a pit bull terrier. While searching the house for the dog, officers found a significant quantity of marijuana growing and being processed inside. The homeowner was contacted, and no arrests have been made.

Detectives are investigating both the marijuana cultivation and the possible child endangerment.

Subject: Police arrest man in interrupted burglary case after pursuit
Contact: Sgt. Andrew Goodrich, Fullerton Police Department    (714) 738-6838

Police arrested a man for residential burglary today (Dec 27) after a vehicle pursuit that started in Fullerton and ended in La Mirada. Two suspects are still outstanding.

Fullerton Police Sgt. Andrew Goodrich said that at about 12:30pm, a 12-year-old home alone called the police after three suspects entered his house, thinking no one was home. The suspects first knocked on the door, and the 12-year-old didn’t respond because he didn’t know the people. When it appeared no one was home, the suspects went into the back yard, and entered from the rear.

With the 12-year-old still on the line with dispatchers, officers responded with lights and sirens to the residence. The suspects fled in their car just as officers arrived.

Officers began chasing the suspects, who collided with a car at the intersection of Gilbert and Malvern. The suspects continued westbound on Malvern, eventually crashing into a fire hydrant in La Mirada, near
La Mirada Blvd.
and Imperial Hwy. Officers’ set-up a perimeter to search for the suspects, and eventually located Deon William Oden, 23, from Los Angeles. Oden was booked at the Fullerton Jail for burglary, felony evading, felony hit & run, and other charges.

“This method of residential burglary, sometimes referred to as “knock-knock bandits”, is becoming more common. We want to remind residents that depending upon the situation, advising someone who is at your door that you are home without opening the door is something people should consider”, said Fullerton Police Captain Dan Hughes.

The two other suspects are still outstanding. They are described as a black female in her 30s, and the other is a black male.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Detective Michael Hines at (714) 773-5765, or the front desk of the Fullerton Police Department at (714) 738-6716.

Last week FPD arrested Eric Avina, 19 yr old from Fullerton, for possession of vandalism implements. Avina is on probation and has been identified as “REKS” of the LFL tagging crew.  “REKS” has been very active on the west side of town and FPD is working with his probation officer in an effort to obtain a significant jail sentence for a violation of his probation.  A juvenile with the moniker of “RATE” or “RATER” was also arrested last week for vandalism, possession of vandalism tools, and possession of stolen property. Detective Bolden observed the juvenile placing “slappies” on several signs and the suspect was in possession of more than 20 U.S. Postal mail stickers that were going to be placed on various properties.

"I believe we are making some significant progress with this tagging crew," said Acting Chief Dan Hughes. "We are committed to relentlessly pursuing these individuals until their behavior stops."

Craig Hunter's Smoke Screen With Haidl's Pot

Red County is at it again. Every time it looks like Bill Hunt is gaining momentum the Hunter/Schroeder wannabe posse attempts to ride his coattails. This time, like always, the Hunter/Schroeder Public Trust Wrecking Crew dredges up the Gregory Haidl pot incident as if it were some major drug deal that was covered up. The only thing major about it was that Greg Haidl was involved and that Carona and Jaramillo repeatedly attempted to cover it up.

Recently, I found a short set of transcripts from the USA vs. Carona trial in my email's inbox. The parts I received pertained to Gregory Haidl and very loosely to Bill Hunt. The one person who supposedly was told by Hunt to NOT arrest the suspects that night has since died. When Sgt. Downing died, he took with him the truth about what Bill Hunt said. Since the beginning, Hunt's story has remained the same. Further if anyone had a shred of evidence that Hunt did something illegal, why didn't the U.S. Attorney go after Hunt in the indictment with Carona and his posse? Because there is no evidence that Hunt did anything illegal. In fact, the California Attorney General's report says as much and goes further to say that Hunt did not break departmental policy with his role as chief of police services. The one guy who really botched up the field work and subsequent reporting and evidence booking was Sgt. Downing. Everything Roche had to say about Hunt was regarding Roche's claim that he was ordered to omit facts from his report which was debunked by Sgt. Gaffner's signed statement that supports Hunt's side of the story.

No, I am inclined to believe Gaffner and Hunt over a pissed off deputy who had his toes stepped on by all of his supervisors; first by his sergeant (Downing) and second by two other supervisors (Gaffner & Hunt). I still think it was Roche who violated departmental policy by leaking the audio and video recordings to the media. Roche was the one with the chip on his shoulder and wanted to get even with management. The only problem is that it's his word against two supervisors, one of which (Gaffner) was independent of the rest of the incident. Not helping Schroeder or Hunter are the facts found by R. Scott Moxley of OC Weekly when he pulled the phone records and found that Carona had lied about his hand in the Haidl affair.

As whoiscraighunter.org has reported, Schroeder was Carona's puppet master as he is now Hunter's. That means Schroeder and his wife (who works in the DA's office and is now the DA's Chief of Staff) had access to sensitive information and unique opportunities to tip off Carona about what the Grand Jury and DA's Office were doing when it came to investigating him and his posse. It wasn't until the Feds got involved that we started to see what was really going on. So, let's recap that thought: Schroeder had Carona and the DA in his pocket. Carona specifically asked the attorney general to NOT investigate. Carona walked free throwing everyone in his posse under the stage coach until he was the last man standing. Then the Feds caught him on tape saying some pretty bad stuff. Of course the Feds were a little out of reach of the Schroeders' grasp and eventually Carona was indicted on the somewhat minor charge of witness tampering (minor considering what Carona was charged with).

And of course, Schroeder et al are back with their pot laced smoke screen buying off the Red County boys (and maybe girl) to get their guys, Craig Hunter and Mike Schroeder, into the Sheriff's Office so we can have Mike Carona reincarnated in the Osborne Building.

All this over a small bag of dope!  But we have to keep in mind that the kids at Red County are just doing the job that they are paid to do

CBSNEWS.COM: Mexico Drug Gangs Attack Army Garrisons

CBSNews.com is reporting an Associated Press story that the Mexican Army was attacked by gunmen from the Mexican drug cartels.  The attacks appeared to be well planned and the gunmen well prepared with armored vehicles and military weaponry.

"(AP) Dozens of gunmen mounted rare and apparently coordinated attacks targeting two army garrisons in northern Mexico, touching off firefights that killed 18 attackers.

The attempts to blockade soldiers inside their bases - part of seven near-simultaneous attacks across two northern states - appeared to mark a serious escalation in Mexico's drug war, in which cartel gunmen attacked in unit-size forces armed with bulletproof vehicles, dozens of hand grenades and assault rifles.

While drug gunmen frequently shoot at soldiers on patrol, they seldom target army bases, and even more rarely attack in the force displayed during the confrontations Tuesday in the border states of Tamaulipas and Nuevo Leon - areas that have seen a surge of bloodshed in recent months."

With these attacks in mind as well as kidnappings of U.S. citizens in the U.S. for ransom by cartel-related groups, what does 2010 candidate for Orange County Sheriff, Bill Hunt, plan to do to keep us safe from the Mexican Drug War struggles?

Bill Hunt: "The escalating violence of Mexican drug lords is another reason we can no longer afford to elect public officials who turn a blind eye to illegal immigration enforcement and pay lip service to securing our nations borders. The invasion of illegal aliens coming from our southern border is crippling our criminal justice system, our schools and our health care systems. America is struggling financially at the federal, state and local levels and branding those who defend our nation's immigration laws as racist will not end this threat to our nation's security and prosperity. Now more than ever, it's time for honest debate and strong, principled leadership at every level of government on this important issue that impacts us all."

And that's why I'm voting for Bill Hunt!

My Grandma - A Eulogy

LET'S TALK ABOUT 1914 FOR A MOMENT.

FOR STARTERS, GRANDMA WAS BORN TUESDAY, DECEMBER 22, 1914 IN HER FAMILY'S ATWOOD RANCH HOUSE.

IT IS WORTH NOTING THOSE ALSO BORN IN 1914:

JACK LALANNE

JOE DIMAGGIO

DANNY THOMAS

AND WHO DIED IN 1914:

JOHN MUIR, THE FAMOUS NATURALIST FOR WHICH NUMEROUS ROADS, PARKS, HOTELS, AND NATURE RESERVES ARE NAMED.

IT IS ALSO WORTH NOTING THAT IN 1914 WOODROW WILSON SIGNS MOTHER'S DAY PROCLAMATION AND BABE RUTH MAKES HIS MAJOR LEAGUE DEBUT WITH THE RED SOX. MOTHER'S DAY AND BASEBALL- TWO OF MY FAVORITES!! (PERHAPS HER NICKNAME "BABE" CAME FROM BABE RUTH???)

GRANDMA WAS BORN INTO A PERIOD OF TIME FILLED WITH TURMOIL. IN JUNE OF 1914 ARCHDUKE FRANZS FERDINAND WAS ASSASSINATED. WITHIN ONE MONTH WORLD WAR I RAGED ACROSS EUROPE. TWO DAYS AFTER HER BIRTH HOWEVER, GERMAN AND BRITISH TROOPS INTERRUPTED WWI TO CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS. (PERHAPS THEY PAUSE KNOWING THAT A GREAT WOMAN WAS BORNE) WORLD WAR I CONTINUED UNTIL THE TREATY OF VERSAILLES IN 1919.

ALTHOUGH SHE WAS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD, SHE SAW THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS CREATED AND THE 19TH AMENDMENT WAS APPROVED BY THE U.S. CONGRESS GUARANTEEING THE RIGHTS OF WOMEN TO VOTE.

SHE LIVED THROUGH MANY NOTABLE EVENTS. LIKE THE 1933 LONG BEACH EARTHQUAKE OR WHEN ATWOOD FLOODED ALONG WITH MOST OF ORANGE COUNTY IN 1938 AND THE FLOOD-WATERS CLAIMED MORE THAN 50 PEOPLE, 43 OF WHICH WERE FROM ATWOOD! ALL OF THIS DURING A TIME THAT WE READ ABOUT IN SCHOOL AND KNOWN AS "THE GREAT DEPRESSION". SOMEWHERE IN ALL OF THAT SHE FOUND THE LOVE OF HER LIFE, GRANDPA LEO, GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL, GOT MARRIED, AND HAD KIDS!

THEN THERE WAS WORLD WAR II. FROM PEARL HARBOR TO HIROSHIMA, GRANDMA WAS RAISING MY UNCLE BOB AND MOM ARLINE. WITH AIR-RAID SIRENS AND BLACKOUTS SHE WAS A WIFE AND MOTHER. WHAT A TIME TO RAISE CHILDREN! I BET GRANDMA'S PARENTS WERE ABEL TO TELL HER A THING OR TWO ABOUT RAISING KIDS IN WARTIME.

GRANDMA WAS THERE WHEN THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA HELD THEIR 3RD ANNUAL NATIONAL JAMBOREE IN 1953. SHE SAW AIRBASES OPEN IN '42 AND CLOSE IN '99. SHE WATCHED WALTER KNOTT START UP HIS BERRY FARM AND WALT DISNEY TURN ORANGE GROVES AND STRAWBERRY PATCHES INTO DISNEYLAND!

SHE SAW THE HORSE AND CARRIAGE FADE AWAY INTO HISTORY AND SPACE TRAVEL EXPLODE BEFORE HER WITH THE FIRST LUNAR LANDING. JUST IMAGINE HOW MUCH TECHNOLOGY HAS CHANGED OVER THE LAST 100 YEARS. FROM TUBE RECTIFIERS TO SUPERCONDUCTORS; FROM TRANS-ATLANTIC TELEGRAPH CABLES TO SATELLITE TV.

SHE SAW MORE IN HER 93 YEARS THAN MOST OF US WILL EVER READ ABOUT, LET ALONE LIVE THROUGH!

OF THOSE 93 YEARS IT IS MY HONOR TO HAVE BEEN HER GRANDSON FOR 35 OF THEM. SHE WAS MY MOTHER WHEN MOM HAD TO WORK. SHE WIPED MY NOSE AND PUT FOOD IN MY MOUTH. SHE LET ME PLAY WITH GRANDPA EVEN THOUGH SHE NEEDED HIM TO TAKE HER TO THE STORE. SHE WAS MY GRANDMA AND I WILL MISS HER IMMENSELY.

JUST LOOK AROUND THIS ROOM; SHE DID THIS. SHE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR BRINGING SO MANY GOOD PEOPLE INTO THIS WORLD AND TOGETHER TODAY. THIS IS HER LEGACY.

A Dedication To My Loving Wife, Stacey. Thank you for all you do for me!

Brad Paisley - I Thought I Loved You Then

I remember trying not to stare the night that I first met you
You had me mesmerized
3 weeks later in the front porch light taking 45 min to kiss you goodnight
I hadn’t told you yet but I thought I loved you then

Chorus
Now you’re my whole life now you’re my whole world
I just can’t believe the way I feel about you girl
Like a river meets the sea
Stronger than it’s ever been
We’ve come so far since that day
And I thought I loved you then.

I remember taking you back to right where I first met you
You were so surprised
There were people around
But I didn’t care I got down on one knee right there
And once again I thought I loved you then

Chorus
Now you’re my whole life now you’re my whole world
I just can’t believe the way I feel about you girl
Like a river meets the sea
Stronger than it’s ever been
We’ve come so far since that day
And I thought I loved you then.

I can just see you with a baby on the way
I can just see you when your hair is turning gray
What I can’t see is how I’m ever gonna love you more
But I’ve said that before.

Now you’re my whole life now you’re my whole world
I just can’t believe the way I feel about you girl
Well look back some day at this moment that we’re in
And I'll look at you and say I thought I loved you then
And I thought I loved you then...
