***UPDATE***
Sacramento insiders are telling me that GOP State Senators are working on a compromise that would place taxes on the ballot in exchange for pension reform. No word yet on who will flip. More updates to come.
***ORIGINAL POST***
An anonymous source out of Sacramento is reporting a backroom deal is in the works with party leaders which will give us pension reform AND higher taxes.
I am in the process of confirming this information from someone who I consider to be a reliable source. As soon as I have a confirmation and more details, I will share it here.
This would make sense given the current situation.
ReplyDeleteI just hope we come up with a solution that keeps retired people comfortable in their golden years without paying them more than they made as a worker. This is going to be hard to figure out but it must be done. I am ready to pay another percentage of state sales tax to help. It could turn into two percent if we add one for local taxes. We're not buying much these days. Let those of us that do, pay more tax for our consumption if that's what it takes.
This goes against every grain of my support for workers. If some worked out deals that would pay them more in retirement by working for two or more municipalities than taking that good job in the private sector, the deal was made.
At the same time, the Republicans are trying to find a way for states to file bankruptcy which would do harm to retired workers in the entire country. California should lead by example and show a way out of that dreaded scenario. We have to make a deal for peoples futures before that deal will be made by the international banksters. If we allow them to define the terms, it will be too late.
Raising taxes isn't the answer. Sacramento is addicted to spending and that has to change. No one can take away the pensions of those already retired. However, those who wish to retire should make a significant effort to understand the pension disaster and how to protect their future. In the same way environmentally sensitive minds want us to live in sustainable green communities so must government leaders and the People learn to lead through sustainable governance.
ReplyDeleteLike many, I might be swayed to pay more local taxes but only after we cut back all of the needless bureaucracy at City Hall.
