One of the radio stations I work for used to sponsor a monster truck show in Eureka. The station had an old Ford van painted up bright red with logos and such. The thing had rust all under the nice paint. Things started failing on the van to the point we had to get another vehicle. During the next monster truck show, we parked it on the dirt track and had the super big trucks drive right through it! The drained the gas and took the battery out.
It was pretty exciting. Not very environmental though. The monster trucks haven't been here in a few years. It was fun to see though.
The cars and vans that were eaten up at this event were stripped of everything but their shell because of environmental concerns expressed many years ago. What the video doesn't show is just how much mud there was. It had rained heavily for two days leading up to the event. The mud made the track so slippery that none of the trucks could get any real speed. If you compared the trial times compared with other races, you see that they ran very slow this time. Several ran into the empty dumpsters that lined the field walls after sliding 50 to 100 feet! The kids loved it!!!
